Marian Sanctuary in Ludźmierz
The Sanctuary of Our Lady the Queen of Podhale in Ludźmierz and the Rosary Gardens - the church was built originally from larch wood by the Cistercians in 1238. Between 1869 and 1877, the wooden church was disassembled and a new neo-Gothic brick church was created. The altar, together with the sculpture of Our Lady of Ludźmierz were moved to the new church. An interesting event took place during the coronation of the figure by Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński in 1963. During the event, the staff fell out of the figure’s hand and was caught by the bishop Karol Wojtyła. It is said that due to the intercession of Our Lady of Ludźmierz, the Queen of Podhale, Karol Wojtyła became pope. Around the church site, the Rosary Garden was created which enchants the visitors and locals with its beauty.
