Slovak Museum of Nature Protection and Speleology
4031 01 Liptovský Mikuláš
The Slovak museum of nature and caves - the most modern museum of this type in Slovakia. The area of around 1400 sq m encompasses many rare showpieces. The biggest one is the skeleton of the European cave lion, one of the biggest in Europe. You can also see the prehistoric cult mask and a meteorite model. The museum is filled with interactive tools. You can have a look inside the bear’s lair or have a try at crawling inside the cave. The showpieces are accompanied by light and sound effects which make it feel like a real walk in the forest. You can hear the birdsongs, groundhog’s whistling and wolf’s howling. In the museum’s attic, you can take part in different workshops about beekeeping, fishing, sheep farming, skiing, or mountain rescue services. You can also enter the cosy hut - the oldest one in the High Tatras. The cave exhibit is available in the basement.
